Paul Delaney takes schools by storm

We’re very happy to be supporting one of our very own Connex Teachers, Paul Delaney in his endeavours to conquer all schools in the United Kingdom with his children’s books!

Paul is a freelance poet and writer, working with children in schools throughout the UK. Paul’s main aim is to develop children’s love and enjoyment of creative writing, developing their reading and writing skills, primarily using modern poetry and narrative.

Teaching for over 20 years at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Catholic primary school in Widnes, Cheshire, both in a full time and part time capacity, Paul Delaney has plenty of experience teaching children, and he is absolutely adored by everyone he meets.

“I developed a love of children’s stories and poetry and decided to start writing myself. I was so encouraged by the children’s enthusiastic response to my work, I decided to publish a few books, which have all proved to be big hits around the country”.

He may have even attended your school to complete workshops with the children, writing stories and composing soundtrack. If not, we know plenty of school teachers who can recommend him…

“The school’s children couldn’t wait to write their own poems after Paul’s assembly. He was so entertaining and inspiring, demonstrating and sharing insights into the writing process as well as material that really hits the spot for both primary and secondary aged children!” – Michael Cain Primary Literacy Consultant, St. Helens MBC

“The whole visit was wonderful! The children really enjoyed the interaction with Paul’s puppets. They wanted him to stay all day!” – Holy Family & St. Michaels Catholic Primary School, West Yorkshire

“Paul captured the children’s (and teachers!) full attention with his well written, lively texts, which he shared when spending the day with us. His enthusiasm and humorous delivery certainly rubbed off on the children too. They not only wanted to read but were also desperate to start their own writing too! Thank you Paul.”
– Bleak Hill Primary School, St. Helens, Merseyside

In addition to being a writer, Paul is also an accomplished organist and pianist. He’s the Director of music at St Paul’s Catholic Church in West Derby, Liverpool and a cathedral organ recitalist. One of his workshops is writing a story and composing a soundtrack to it!

Since realising his talent, Paul has managed to arrange a variety of poetry festivals across Liverpool, and is now looking to branch out further to other cities. He has however, already made his mark in London, where he spent World Book Week in four different schools. He’s even had Michael Morpurgo read his very own ‘Sparrowlegs’! He has also appeared on Bay TV’s ‘Twice Upon a Time’ children’s programme.

Speaking of our recent partnership, Scott Day had this to say: “We’re extremely passionate about safeguarding and doing all we can to ensure children are educated to an excellent standard, and are safe. At Connex we’re not obsessed by profit – which is why we want to give something back with regards to our partnership with Paul.”

Listen out for more updates and Paul’s whereabouts and if he’s organising a festival near you! We’ll also be looking to give away some of Paul’s work to teachers and schools very, VERY soon…watch this space.
